The 2016 Xi'an Silk Road Business Summit opens on Tuesday in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, drawing more than 500 participants of business leaders and representatives from 52 Belt and Road countries.
The two-day event, also dubbed a Development Cooperation Conference of the Silk Road Chamber of Commerce (SRCIC), cast spotlight on strengthening business cooperation and promoting the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, around which inclusive discussions and constructive exchanges are being conducted.
It aims to provide a stage for business people from the Belt and Road countries to discuss cooperation projects and seek for business opportunities, according to the sponsors.
"Action speaks louder than words. We will take actions right away to promote the development of the Belt and Road Initiative with the massive and integrated resources from chambers of commerce across the world. The main actors of our action will be the enterprises and so far 49 countries have become our chamber members. Today we have invited the chambers of commerce from 52 countries to gather at Xi'an -- the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, and we would sign a series of strategic cooperation agreements regarding our cooperative mechanism and platform," said Lyu Jianzhong, chair of the SRCIC, an organizer of the summit along with the China Chamber of International Commerce and the Shaanxi Provincial Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
The participants have reached three consensuses on building an E-Silk Road platform, providing cross-border financial service platforms and jointly building a cooperation platform for key cities along the Belt and Road routes.
"(The summit) has direct impacts on Georgia, since we have entered an era highlighted by the very pragmatic cooperation with China. So by attending multilateral conferences like this summit today, we are pushing forward the specific cooperation projects between our two countries. In Xi'an today, the influence of the SRCIC is very big and it'll definitely make our bilateral trade and economic cooperation more and more pragmatic," said David Aptsiauri, Georgia's ambassador to China.
Besides negotiations to be held and agreements to be signed as well as other promotional activities being held, a Xi'an Declaration will be released at the end of the summit.
