Ukrainian MPs call on EU to prevent building of gas pipelines bypassing UkraineThe Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has called on the European Parliament, the European Commission, national parliaments of the EU member states to prevent the implementation of the politically motivated projects to build gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine.

A total of 264 lawmakers voted for the Verkhovna Rada's appeal to the parliaments and executive agencies of the European Union member states concerning the strengthening of cooperation in the energy security sector and potential risks of the projects on the construction of a transit gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine (No. 5329) at the plenary session on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian parliament has calls on the European Parliament, the European Commission and national parliaments of the EU member states to support Ukraine on its path of the implementation of the energy sector reforms in line with its international obligations, to join the modernization and operation of the gas transportation system of Ukraine in order to maximize its utilization and to ensure uninterrupted supply of natural gas to EU member states.

The appeal says that "in spite of the military aggression by the Russian Federation, Ukraine remains a reliable partner for natural gas supply to the European Union."

According to an explanatory note to the appeal, the gas pipelines mentioned in the document are Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream.
