Chornobyl New Safe Confinement will cost Ukraine $600 million per annum - Ecology minister
The maintenance and operation of the New Safe Confinement installed over power unit 4 at Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant will cost Ukraine about $600 million per annum.
Ukrainian Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Ostap Semerak has stated this at a press conference dedicated to the completion of the confinement sliding operations, Ukrinform reports.

“As for financing of the New Safe Confinement operation, we have estimated it at about $600 million per annum. Ukraine will start to spend these funds as soon as the confinement is put into operation. Ukraine will stop paying contributions to international funds which were used to finance construction operations from that moment. These expenses are reasonable, and we have provided them in the budget for 2018,” Semerak said.
In addition, Semerak noted that Ukraine will rely upon international partners for their further support after the New Safe Confinement is put into operation.
