Recently, the British actor Matthew Goode (Stoker, Downton Abbey) has joined the project as a main character, Deadline reports
The script for the new show was adapted by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and will be produced through Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios. Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Terminator Genisys) will direct the pilot.
Goode is about to play Red Schuhart, a stalker, one of those young rebels who are compelled, in spite of the extreme danger, to venture illegally into the Zone to collect the mysterious artifacts that the alien visitors left scattered around. (Russian: Пикник на обочине) is a short science fiction novel written in 1971. The novel is set in a post-visitation world where there are now six Zones known on Earth (each zone is approximately five square miles/kilometers in size) which are full of unexplained phenomena and where strange happenings have briefly occurred, assumed to have been visitations by aliens. The novel is set in and around a specific Zone in Harmont, a fictitious town in Canada, and follows the main protagonist over an eight-year period.
In 1979 science fiction film, Stalker, was released. It was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, with a screenplay written by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky, is loosely based on the novel.
