YouTube will now reward you for moderating videos and comments (VIDEO)YouTube wants your help moderating videos and comments on the platform. On Wednesday it launched YouTube Heroes, a new program where its users can report things like inappropriate content to the company, earning points in the process that can be redeemed towards gaining early access to new site features.

And it’s not just for flagging the bad stuff. YouTube Heroes can also earn points for doing helpful things on the platform, such as adding captions or subtitles to videos or sharing their knowledge with other users in the site’s Help forum.

The program is only available for individual YouTube users — organizations and brands need not apply — and users will need to be of an eligible age in their jurisdiction to enter into such an agreement. The social video platform will also offer exclusive workshops and video chats for YouTube Heroes to hone their skills.

Each time you perform a task you’ll earn a certain amount of points. The site published the following as a guideline of what you can expect to earn for each accomplishment:

Accurate reports of videos that violate community guidelines = 1 point
Contributing a sentence that gets published as a subtitle = 1 point
Answering a user question on the YouTube Help forum with a comment selected as the Best Answer = 10 points

Power users can gain access to “supertools” like the ability to mass flag videos, and the biggest contributors can gain early access to new YouTube products and features as well as to direct access to YouTube staff. There’s also mention of a “Heroes Summit,” which looks to be a big party where you could ultimately have the opportunity to network with other YouTube Heroes.
