A total of UAH 57 billion or 2.5% GDP is allocated in the national budget for the Defense Ministry to increase the defense potential of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with artillery soldiers in Ternopil, an Ukrinform reported.
“This is the maximum the Ukrainian economy and tax payers can do. But it covers the minimum needs of the army. The year 2016 was declared the Year of the Air Force. In this context it is foreseen to conduct a complete reorganization and a significant increase in the efficiency of the Air Force, and first of all, it concerns the air defense. We must not only restore the weapons and equipment of the air defense, but also to train people how to use it,” the President said.
According to him, during the current year not only the Air Force will be reformed. Much attention will be also paid to the newly created special forces, the resumption of the fighting strength of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, and the development of highly mobile landing troops, the President added.
