Over 20 judges making decisions on Euromaidan activists may be dismissed in Ukraine

Over 20 judges making decisions on Euromaidan activists may be dismissed in UkraineUkraine's High Council of Justice has recommended that 21 judges be dismissed for breaking their oath when issuing court rulings with regard to Euromaidan activists, council head Ihor Benedysiuk told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"Of the 41 conclusions that have already been received by the High Council of Justice [from the provisional specialized commission in charge of inspecting judges], 29 conclusions have already been considered. We have recommended that 21 judges be dismissed for violating their oath," he said.

"The president's decision to dismiss four judges came as a follow-up to the decision adopted by the High Council of Justice… Three judges were dismissed for illegal decisions with regard to Euromaidan activists. The fourth one is Kiryeyev," he said when commenting on the president's decision to dismiss these judges.

"Such decisions will be implemented far more promptly if parliament finds the political will to vote in favor of the appropriate changes to the Constitution," he added.

It was reported that on January 18, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko dismissed four judges, among them Kyiv's Pechersky District Court Judge Rodion Kiryeyev, who had convicted the country's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko as part of the 'gas case'.
