Half of the population of Ukraine considers that the country would benefit from joining the European Union.
Among the main advantages of EU membership 38.6% of the Ukrainians consider the possibility of free movement of people abroad, 36.8%—higher living standards, 33.7%—free access of young people to study in the EU member states.
"50.3% of the Ukrainian people believe that Ukraine will get more benefits from joining the EU, 26.1% of respondents believe that the country will have negative consequences and 23.6% could not answer the question," voiced the results of the survey Maria Zolkina, the political analytic of the Fund "Democratic initiative" during the presentation of the study, informs the agency “Interfax-Ukraine”.
Almost one in four Ukrainian people (24%) believes that EU membership will facilitate domestic reforms in Ukraine. 22% of respondents believe that the country won’t have any advantage from the membership in EU.
At the same time, according to the population, the main negative effects of EU membership, may be Ukrainian emigration abroad (33.1%) and the deterioration of relations with Russia and other CIS countries (27.5%). There is also concern about a possible increase in the unemployment rate (18.2%), the loss of Russian markets (17.2%) and decline in living standards (16.5%). 16.8% of respondents believe that there won’t be any negative effects of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
