Panama Papers: Ukraine’s NABU has no right to lead investigation against the current PresidentUkraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau will not open the case on offshores that belong to President Petro Poroshenko, said the Bureau’s press secretary Svitlana Olifira.

“The current President of Ukraine cannot be a person under investigation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. There’s a separate procedure foreseen in the Constitution called the impeachment. We have no right to lead investigation against the current President of Ukraine”, she noted.

As was earlier reported, journalists and dozens of media all over the planet simultaneously released materials about owners of large offshore businesses.

The investigation is based on the so-called Panama Archive, the selection of documents belonging to Mossack Fonseca, Panama-based low-profile company. About a hundred of powerful politicians and celebrities are on Mossack Fonseca’s database, which contains about 11 million materials and 2.6 terabytes of digital data. About 20 Ukrainians are on the list of these people; one of them is current President Petro Poroshenko.
