Ukraine, Georgia set to get visa-free regime from Jan 2017 - Radio LibertyUkraine and Georgia are set to get visa-free regime from January 2017. This is according to Rikard Jozwiak, a correspondent of Radio Liberty in Brussels.

"The EU diplomats are awaiting the final decisions of European Parliament and EU Council concerning visa-free travel for Ukraine and Georgia in October 2016 with its further launching the next year," wrote Jozwiak on his Twitter account.

On August 18th Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko voiced optimism on imminent visa liberalisation for Ukrainians. Later Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin also expressed his expectations about the country's prospects to get the desired visa-free travel to the EU member states in the upcoming months.

The European Commission officially proposed visa liberalisation for Ukraine on April 20th, saying that Kyiv has complied with the requirements for visa-free travel for Ukrainians across Europe. On July 11th, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn expressed hope that the visa-free regime issue with Ukraine would be resolved by October.

In late July Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze announced the European Union is getting prepared to adopt visa-free regime for Ukraine in autumn 2016.
