The ministry said that the S-300 is an "exclusively defensive system and poses no threat to anybody", RBC Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the delivery of advanced S-300 anti-missile systems to Syria, according to the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Russia Igor Konashenkov.
Defense Minister stated that the complex tasks to ensure the safety of the naval base in Tartus and the ships of the Russian Navy located in the coastal zone from potential threats from the air.
He also said he did not understand why the accommodation of S-300 in Syria "caused a stir in the West."
"I will remind you, that the S-300 is a purely defensive system, and no one is under threat. Moreover, earlier, as you know, in the region there was a similar system in sea - complex "Fort ", the same complex used for the Guards missile cruiser of the Black Sea Fleet "Moscow," he added.
