Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn is set to be proclaimed Thailand's new king on Thursday, BBC.
The head of the National Legislative assembly is expected to publicly announce the prince's acceptance of the throne later on Thursday, 50 days after the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Thai Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will then become King Rama X, the 10th monarch of the Chakri dynasty.
King Bhumibol, the world's longest-reigning monarch, died on 13 October, 2016.
The government declared a year-long official mourning period.
Maha Vajiralongkorn was given the title of crown prince, making him the official heir, in 1972.
