Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Antanas Linkevicius called on Russia to cancel the planned West-2017 military drills bordering with NATO countries, as he told RND.
We are concerned over the fact that Moscow sent to Belarus and Baltic border 4,000 systems that can carry nuclear weapons, and not less than 30,000 soldiers. We are worried that the Russian military presence in Belarus will become permanent, he said.
Linkevicius also reminded that the annexation of Crimea also started as a military exercise.
The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs also called Russian claims that only 12,000 soldiers are participating in the drills unlikely. We must be diligent and ready, he said.
