Ukraine's horseman Cassio Rivetti was disqualified from the showcasing competition at the Rio Olympics.
The following inspections showed the wounds that appeared from over use of spurs or of the whip.
The president of the Rio 2016 equestrian Olympic ground jury Stephan Ellenbruch said to Insidethegames:
"Horse welfare is the most important element of equestrian sport,"
"Disqualification under this rule does not imply that there was intent to injure the horse, but it is essential that the rules are enforced in order to ensure that horse welfare is protected.”
Along with the Ukrainian competitor, the Brazilian Stephan de Freitas Barcha was disqualified as well.
