UN: Govts have to find working long-term solutions for refugees
“We are here to shape a different future. I urge national governments to commit to cutting by half the number of internally displaced people by 2030 and to find better long-term solutions for refugees and displaced people based on more equal sharing of responsibilities”, Ban Ki-moon said.
The World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul is the first one of such kind ever held under the aegis of the UN.
The Summit has three main goals: to re-inspire and reinvigorate a commitment to humanity and to the universality of humanitarian principles, to initiate a set of concrete actions and commitments aimed at enabling countries and communities to better prepare for and respond to crises, and be resilient to shocks; finally, to share best practices which can help save lives around the world, put affected people at the center of humanitarian action, and alleviate suffering.
