Week-long floods took almost 130 lives in China
Severe flooding across central and southern China over the past week has killed 128 people across 11 provinces and regions and 42 people are missing, damaged more than 1.9 million hectares of crops, state media said on Tuesday. Also it has led to direct economic losses of more than 38 billion yuan. The stormy weather also took a toll on farm animals.
More than 1.3 million people have been forced out of their homes, and nearly 600,000 people are in urgent need of basic living assistance.
Forecasts predicted more downpours during traditional China's flood season. And the destructive weather is likely to continue.
