"This is a good trend that after the incident with the Russian combat aircraft shot down by Turkey last year between the two countries once again become closer. But at the same time, I do not believe that the relationship between them will be so close that Russia will offer Turkey an alternative to defense NATO partnership ", - the diplomat noted. Also Steinmeier urged to refrain from harsh criticism of Ankara.
"We made it clear from the outset about how we relate to the arrests of teachers, judges and journalists, and we will do so in the future. But for all the justified criticism against Turkey during a debate in Germany is often forgotten that those who participated in the coup, acted with extreme brutality, including against civilians, and the Parliament and it is recognized by the Turks, even those that do not support the ruling party, "- said the German politician.
