Czech hiker saved after a month missing in New Zealand MountainsNew Zealand police rescued a Czech hiker, who went missing a month ago and found a shelter in a hut in the snowy mountains of southern New Zealand.

The woman was found by a search team on Wednesday near Lake Mackenzie. According to her words, her husband had fallen to his death nearby.

Rescuers said the woman was in reasonable health, but she “undergone quite a traumatic experience” police inspector told. Aftermath she was taken to the hospital.

The woman told police, that she and her partner, also thought to be Czech, were hiking the Routeburn track between Mount Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks on 24 July. Four days later, the man fell down a slope and died, she said. As the woman was disoriented, she managed to make it to the hut and stayed in place for the next month amid heavy snowfall.

The alarm was raised by the Czech consulate as two travelers were not heard from for some time.

The recovery operation is now on its way to find the man’s body.
