China would be a “loser” if doesn’t recognize South China Sea ruling: the Philippines
China should recognize an international court ruling over South China Sea, otherwise it will be a “losers”, Philippine Foreign Minister Perfecto Yasay said on Tuesday.
In July an arbitration court in The Hague ruled in the favor of the Philippines that China has breached their rights in disputed waters. China declined to recognize the ruling."We are trying to make China understand especially when the dust settles that unless they respect and recognize the arbitral tribunal, they will be the losers at the end of that day on this matter,"
Yasay told a congressional hearing.
Also the Philippines want China to allow Philippine fishermen to access disputed waters before starting bilateral talks, Yasay said. Philippine fishermen access was denied in 2012, when China seized Scarborough Shoal."When we start formal negotiations or bilateral engagements with China, we will have to do it within the context of the arbitral decision. There are no buts or ifs insofar as our policy on this matter is concerned,"
