The Chairman of Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs Norbert Röttgen and the deputy of the Alliance ’90/The Greens Party Franziska Brantner demanded Brussels to impose sanctions against Russia due to the advancing of Syrian troops in Aleppo, with the support of Russia.
This was reported by the German daily Spiegel Online with the reference to legislators’ application they received, reports "TASS".
“Why are the measures not being taken, although crimes in Syria are clearly documented, where Moscow is also involved? EU should at least impose sanctions,” the daily quoted the deputies’ application.
The deputies noted that "it is unacceptable when the ones responsible for war crimes, fly to Munich or Paris to do Christmas shopping, while women and children are killed in Syria".
Röttgen and Brantner in their statement also declared that the impact of the sanctions would not be fast, but Russian President “will have to consider their effect, calculating the consequences of his actions in Syria”.
Earlier it was reported that Canada tightened sanctions against Russia. Another 15 persons involved in the Ukraine's situation destabilisation were added to the sanctions list
