The EU member countries won’t send Ukraine any lethal weaponry and other sorts of military aid unless Russia takes some really serious step to worsen the situation in Donbas. Laurent Goodrich said this in an interview with Ukrainian magazine “Apostrophe”.
According to her, by now, several countries already sell weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. “There are several countries that supply to Ukraine what you can call lethal military assistance. Lithuania and Czech Republic sell you small arms and ammunition; Hungary sold T-72 tanks to some other country; and Poland promised to help, but it’s still somewhere else. The United States and EU leaders aren’t going to send any lethal weaponry to Ukraine unless Russia escalates the conflict in Donbas again”, Goodrich said.

According to her, many countries cooperate with Russia, including even the military field. “That’s because the USA and European states lead the dialogue with Russia on many issues except those concerning Ukraine. These countries don’t want to cross the red line”, the expert said.
Laurent Goodrich added that in order to make the West enhance sanctions and send Ukraine lethal assistance, Russia has to do “something much more serious than mere violations of the ceasefire in Donbas”. “On the other hand, we should take into account the fact that NATO fighters train Ukrainian servicemen. That increases combat efficiency of the Ukrainian troops, and for the last two years it grew drastically. So there’s much more to it than just sending weapons; military training is also essential. Currently, the Ukrainian soldiers can complete the missions they’d fail to if tasked two years ago”, she said.
